OVERVIEW
The Resiliency Focused Mentoring TM Training (RFMT) is a unprecedented day-long online training that has been recently added to the groundbreaking programs and tools offered by the Childhood Domestic Violence Association (CDVA). It is an intensive 5-hour distance learning course that incorporates video lectures, experiential learning, course evaluations, and testing. It is geared towards professionals who interact with children impacted by Childhood Domestic Violence (CDV) regularly in a high-touch way.
Created by one of the founding fathers of modern stress management and resiliency – George Everly, Jr., PhD, ABPP, FAPA, FAPM – the RFMT uses CDVA’s empirically tested, evidence-based CHANGE A LIFE program, endorsed by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, and CDVA’s New York Times Bestseller, INVINCIBLE, as the baseline, building extensively on their core principles and providing much more comprehensive information and concrete steps for professionals to apply. It incorporates the most prominent neuroscience and psychology research and applied practices in the field, as well as the key principles of resiliency theory, plus Dr. Everly’s cumulative expertise in trauma, resiliency, and post-traumatic growth. Such a training has never existed before to adequately prepare the hundreds of thousands of professionals across multiple disciplines to effectively intervene with children impacted by any of the 10 major childhood adversities examined in the groundbreaking ACE study that were shown to have a cumulative and defining impact on a life.
WHO THE COURSE IS FOR
This course is appropriate for any professional in a related discipline who interacts regularly with children impacted by major adversities like CDV. The training is a thorough, comprehensive, all-encompassing curriculum that leads from research and resiliency theory to practical application by guiding trainees in a clear, simple, detailed, logical path through the strategies, techniques, concrete steps, and key messages that can be applied to foster resiliency and achieve optimal outcomes in children impacted by trauma. As such, it is intended for a cross-section of disciplines, including the psychological, psychosocial, educational, medical/nursing, criminal justice, and other “helping professions.”
Essentially, this course is relevant for any professional working in or intersecting child development or youth crisis prevention – particularly social workers, school social workers, social service administrators, and guidance counselors, but also teachers, day care providers, child advocates and youth mentors, as well as clinicians, health/medical, and juvenile justice professionals.
CONTINUED EDUCATION HOURS
This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886799264-4822) for 5 continuing education contact hours. This approval was secured in follow-up to the accreditation of the live course for 7 hours of continued education (CE) by the National Association of Social Workers last year (2019).
LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR TRAINEES
Research shows that early intervention is critical in making a lasting positive impact on a child impacted by CDV or any other major childhood adversity. The RFMT is expected to help foster and optimize such early interventions to foster a significant increase in positive future outcomes among these children by thoroughly educating, training, preparing, and empowering professionals who come into contact with these children regularly to proactively, effectively, confidently, consistently, and optimally intervene with them.
The key learning objectives of the course are:
- Significantly (at least by 30%) increased AWARENESS and UNDERSTANDING of CDV, its nature, and its impact, as a serious childhood adversity that has a profound and life-altering impact,
- Significantly (at least by 30%) increased KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING of the key principles and concepts of RESILIENCY THEORY and of RESILIENCY-BASED MENTORING
- Significantly (at least by 30%) increased KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANIDNG of the specific strategies, techniques, sequence of concrete steps and activities mentors can apply to foster resiliency in impacted children, and
- Significantly (at least by 30%) increased MOTIVATION and CONFIDENCE to proactively and effectively apply the strategies, techniques, steps, and activities learned, in order to successfully intervene with impacted children and foster optimal positive outcomes.
